Games are about fun and fun alone. The entire reason games were created was to give a fun form of interactive entertainment to pass time and hang out with friends. People caring about all these stats and what is strongest or fastest or hits hardest are missing out on the entire concept and trying to make it into a sport and trying to be some sort of cyber athlete.

I personally don't mind what SOE does to things, more so I look forward to things and what will happen next. People complaining that this is getting nerfed and that getting buffed is bull shit, while in their opinion they are right, personally I find them wrong. The way I look at all these nerfs and buffs is just another obstacle to overcome and find another way to kill someone. The endgame of a game like PS2 is what I like to call the fun farm where you do what you find enjoyable and just love it, the changes are just your detours along the way. And if the devs fucked with your fun farm, find a way around it or look for another fun farm. PS2 is surprisingly versatile in what you can do so even people who burn out can come back pick up something new and have a blast months later.

Don't look at the negative in what happens but look at the things you enjoy and find ways to continue enjoying them without being a grump and giving up instantly.

The best way to shape this game in your image is to be VERY active on reddit AND the SOE forums. The devs listen. The nerfing and changes made to gameplay originate form these places. Too little feedback from experienced players leads to poor balance choices. Also one mans trash (coyote missiles) is another mans treasure. I think Nraged said it best:
I hate the damned things and I think they are for skilless and noobish pilots. But that is because I am a libber. I now need to adjust and adapt to the new add in and it adds its own excitement in that manner. However, new ESF pilots and experienced ones are finding the benefits of using the missiles while forgoing other options they used to have such as original lockons or afterburners.

I'm going to disagree with this wholeheartedly. I think the game is what you make of it and trying to define gaming or any activity as a whole in the way you did is just wrong. That is simply how you, Kowl, play games (and there is NOTHING wrong with it!) but you are trying to say it is the ONLY way to play games correctly, which is flat out just not true. Games are not always about "fun" and "fun" alone. I have a VERY competitive spirit and I play games to win, not always to have "fun". Is it fun to win? Yes, of course, but sometimes it is not kicking back and being social to ease our lively or daily troubles. Sometimes it is just satisfying to know you have won, even if it was not "fun" (grinding, playing nerve racking competitions or dueling). I say to you, that you are missing out on the entire concept of competitive play in games. How about people who can not play competitive physical sports because of disease or lack of physical ability? Do they never get an avenue for competitive games because all games are is "fun"? Not many of you know (or maybe you do) but I actually care about my stats. I don't have "fun" when my KDR drops below 2 or my SPH is low. Knowing I don't have the competitive edge is not "fun" for me. It just is not an enjoyable experience.
I want my enemies to fear me on the field, or know that it is time to get competitive. It is why I enjoy FPS or RTS games so much, they bring about a competitive community or style of play. When I want to fool around, be casual and just have "fun" they way you described it, I crash some castles ;) or play games that are not aimed at being so competitive but rather bring about social behavior. I'm not saying PS2 doesnt have a casual fun side, (because it totally does!) but it is NOT a game lacking competitiveness. The "fun" seekers in PS2 often opt for a more creative approach to a typical problem or objective (as talked about in Wrels vid I posted) and the competitive players either stop them good in their tracks, or jaw-drop in awe of their style for what they are doing as they watch in amazement as some one dominates the field in a totally new way.

I think the main thing about PS2 is knowing which gun to bring to what fight. I personally like to kill enemies in large quantities and getting better at each vehicle or a class will always have its edge for me. Since the game is constantly changing, it keeps things more exciting.

"Fun" is a blanket term for enjoyment in the game. It can be taken any way and different people have different terms of fun. This thread is about personal opinions and I expressed my opinion on how I don't see people who focus on stats as not having fun. To me, it sounds more like a chore. In FPS games, I don't really care if I get killed as long as I am killing things and not being yelled at for doing my thing the way I like to.

Now if you want to see me get a bit more into it, you have to see me in a MMORPG. I will spend hours looking up things to get the best gear I can and I will do the boring chore of grinding something just to get a single item. I tend to "no life" my MMOs and can't play when I screw up on things. I even go mad at you because you poked me and I wiped the dungeon...dick...

    Remember, different people different opinions.

SOE has killed certain ways to have fun in the game, at least for me.

Like how the nerfed the harasser so bad that I can even react to damage before I'm blown up, I used to drive my harasser across the whole frakking planet racking up points and running over the other factions (and sometimes my own), but now I can't even bring myself to get in the dumb thing because I KNOW that I'm not going to have any fun, and not from lack of trying. Until they change the harasser I'm having fun other ways, like flying the lib every now and again, getting in a mag and playing infantry.

I'm having fun, just not the way I used to.
