StarMade

Hey guys, recently found a new game called "StarMade" from a friend of mine, and it's something that's been eating alot of my time recently.

It's VERY similar to Minecraft, it's a voxel-block based game in space. The idea is to build ships, fly to asteroids and distant planets, to big bigger ships, and have huge wars in them. Ships can be outfitted with weapons, and equipped with shields.

It's still in the alpha stages, and is currently free to play, here's a gameplay video:

Note: In the game, you do not start on a planet, but instead next to a shop, the guy in the video went to a planet for dramatic purposes.

Use the tutorial the game gives you at the start, it's really helpful to get started.

It's REALLY barebones at the moment, being in early alpha, and it seems it's mostly built for playing with alot of people. The idea in single player right now is just to flesh out your playstyle. Do you like flying huge ships with lots of turrets and defenses? You wanna be a planet killer? Do you like flying little fighters and outflying your opponents?

Things to consider when making your ship and playing single player. A good judge of how powerful your ship is is trying to fight the pirates that will spawn. When your ship can easily take one down, it's a decent ship, just flesh it out a bit.

Weapons systems, engines, and other systems all stack pretty heavily. If you have one long line of anti-matter cannons, it's equivalent to having a giant wall of them.

With power, you don't want big boxes of them, the game stacks them like other things, but in a different way. If you make an "Outline" of a cube, it's the same as if you had built the full cube, but your saving ALOT of space. It's hard to explain, so I'd have to jump in a game with you and show you, but yeah.

 

Is there a server where we could all play together?

 

There are servers out there, not sure if we want to hop on a public one, or if an NNG server might go up. Not quite sure yet.

EDIT: A Friend of mine is hosting a server, I will check and see if he wants to let some NNG'ers on it.

Double Edit: I've accumulated a small fortune on that server hunting pirates, so if some NNG'ers do decide to join me there, I could fund a blueprint import.

 

in my SP game my black twinkie of death is doing well! I have been thinking of how I could make a better ship. I looked at some other peoples ships and got some good ideas. I think right now the borg cube design is best. So in about 1 days time I have 8M in the bank and a very big ship. This would be a lot more fun if I could play with all of you. Let me know If your friend would have me on his/her server.

 

Use your Black Twinkie of Death to farm pirates. I got 600mil doing that, and growing.

Also, learn to use the Symettry mode, it's VERY useful, and will make your builds infinitely easier.

 

I havnt tried that yet, but i use the advanced builder often. I get so much $$$ from salvaging space stations, its crazy. I put armor on the twinkie of death. It has 5 blocks of armor around most parts, except the front that has 8. Can I send you my ship somehow? I saved it somewhere...
