Having worked in things like intelligence divisions as well, I'd say that it's a bit of taking it too far in PS2. Sure, it's a warfare game and all but it's not suited for those kind of activities.
As mentioned, a single scouter could provide just as relevant data, without the hassle of pretending to be in another faction. Armour columns/aerial columns aren't exactly hard to spot.

I have worked in counter-intelligence in a number of games, and I can only hope that that they do similar things that they did in PS1 to dissuade that behavior. Watching team speak and getting to know the people we play with does more for keeping bad elements out and team cohesiveness in, than any other strategies or game mechanics they could apply. Once you know what to look for it's not that hard to spot unless they are a bona fide sociopath and insanely intelligent. Don't believe it? Haha...check out this link about EVE Online which scored 2 out of 7 spots on this list. http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-7-biggest-dick-moves-in-history-online-gaming/

Having divisions to gather intelligence? Yes. Using troops to sneak around and spy on enemy forces, more easily using aircraft to spot enemy movement.

Actively joining other factions just to join their top outfits and attempt to give out information that the enemy factions are supplying? No.

If PS2 was using cdkeys, then they could stop people from having 2 charactes of different faction on the same server. But since it will be f2p , nothing stops people from having many accounts and many characters on each servers.

What I'd suggest, is to have trusted players be assigned a title/access on teamspeak that allows you to join the channel. I know there's something already similar (ranks?) on teamspeak, you can just set the channel that you need a certain level to join it. That way you don't have random people joining teamspeak and jumping right away in the PS2 channel ? The other thing would be to only discuss the next moves in teamspeak instead of platoon voice comm ? Squad leaders and NNG members "should" be on teamspeak. That way not too much information ahead of time is leaked on platoon comms ?

In any case, one must ask themselves ... Even if they know where we're going , can't they really stop us ? I doubt it ;) They can just start digging their grave ahead of time or start running/hiding.

Haha....it's true they won't be able to stop us, but the most common tactics I can foresee is to take out our leaders constantly(for a few seconds), learn the locations of our sunderers, and lay traps for us to walk into all of which can be severely annoying. I'm less worried about losing battles, but more worried about losing our edge on how we think and react to changes in the field.

Just read through this thread. Nothing to really add other than a comment on Midnight mentioning EVE. EVE is on a whole other level. The stuff that goes on in that game could teach real world intelligence agencies some tricks.

ADDED: Just noticed after I voted that the percentages add up to 112 1/2%.
