Web Site Status

I like bullet lists, so here is a bullet list regarding the site status:

• No you were not banned
• Our host is claiming that our site is spiking CPU usage on our server
• They also claim this has an impact on their other customers
• They've given me a window of time to fix the issue
• That window seems to change, right now it's 24 hours
• Apparently using the Shoutbox is against their TOS so it will have to go bye by for now
• No forum information will be posts (posts, sigs, structure, nothing...)
• Work Crazy and I were doing for a new site theme may have to be put on hold
• I am working the issue as a priority as I know how important it is for us to have the site up
• If you have any questions please ask me
• Expect intermittent site behavior and further outages
• I will try to keep our NNG FB page updated more frequently with status alerts
• Thanks for your patience

If you don't mind me asking, with whom are we hosted with? Is it shared hosting, a VPS, or dedicated?

Good guys. Usually work really closely with me through some of the more oddball technical issues we run into around here.

Dedicated is about $150 a month and I'm not willing to pay that much.

 

NOT TEH SHOUTBOX OH NOES

 

Dreamhost is my favorite host Chicagovps.net is who I use for my gaming server. VPS's might be something to look into as our community grows. The only thing that's a pain about VPS is it's literally just a Linux box; no webserver installed, no PHP, no MySQL, or cPanel (although you can pay them to install things for you). However, you would have additional resources at your disposal. Just something to think about moving forward.

We could have a normal thread to replace the shoutbox, and just sticky it to the front page. When that gets too long, just swap it out with a new thread (say, after 20 pages or whatever). Not as space efficient, but it could work.

 

Wouldn't be as elegant as the lovely shoutbox, but it's not a bad idea

Still waiting to hear back from host regarding changes I've made.

 

The shoutbox was nice for us to just goof off and have antics, but I don't see it as a necessity.

 

could be a way to host the box on another server, and display it on these forums with use of an iframe. Then again, it's been many many moons since I've done any web development... so pay no mind to me
