I like Rand in that he had a solid role model growing up, but I see him as a career politician, just like the rest of them. Ron was a doctor that only later in life got into politics because he saw how bad things were going and felt someone had to be the (lone) voice of reason. But while Rand can talk the talk, I dont see him walking THAT walk. I think when the chips are down, he'll do what he needs to do to save his job before saving the country. But I really hope I'm wrong.

I think section 8 housing is a good program, but fraud is a huge issue. I live in an apartment complex that has sec 8 subsidies. My mother is the manager, my g/f is the assistant manager (basically trained to take over for my mom when she retires, and my brother is one of the maintenance men here. While we dont receive any subsidies because our income is over the limit to qualify, it's nice for us because yardcare and all apartment repairs are covered in the rent (as well as the gas bill). But from my close perspective to a govt run program, I see fist hand how broken the system is. Mothers getting welfare and food stamps while not reporting all of the household income (witch also means they do not pay as much rent as they should, and the tax dollar covers more then it should for them), people having unqualified people move in with them and live for free on the down low, so on and so on. And while it's part of my mother's & g/f's job to catch these people, if they are too vigilant in their job, 85% of the 100 apartment complex would have to be evicted for fraud, then they would be faced with mass vacancy problems, and they would in turn lose their job for doing the right thing. It's a real mess. It needs to be cleaned, but there is no incentive to really do it because the system is set up to punish those that try. My mother & g/f dont work directly foe the govt, but rather for a management firm that has contracts for complexes all up & down the east coast. And all they care about is a high occupancy percentage, because that keeps the sec 8 HUD money flowing in.
