Agreed , Steam tends to not work for some reason , and when it happens, you can't even play your games that are registred through it. I doubt they'll force people to play through Steam.

Popular theory is that it will just launch the launcher for you, and then tie-in to Steam with hotkeys for screenshots, steam chat, etc.

But, of course, we won't know for sure until tomorrow.

Probably just using it for the exposure and the overlay. I can't see SOE doing a months-long beta without any Steam integration, only to patch it in on launch day. Can you say launch issues?

But what I find odd is that Steam agreed to add it. I don't see where the profit is for Valve, unless there's agreements for DLC, bundles and the like.

    Simple reciprocation?

Google is known for saying something like "We don't care what you do on the Internet, we just want you to use it more." because, no matter what sites you visit, what you do, etc - Google will find a way to monetize something you do online almost every day.

Steam might be operating on the same principal. PlanetSide 2 has some decent buzz going. If even a handful of accounts sign up for Steam to get PlanetSide 2 - eventually they'll see other games for sale they might want. Or, for those of us already in the Steam ecosystem, we'll be inclined to use Steam more often. Same principal - I'll see more Steam advertising, buy more games, use Steam more, etc.

I know one of my friends who only logged about 4-6 hours of play during the beta has already told me he's likely to play more PS2 once it's on Steam - just because of the familiarity. All or most of his games are on Steam. Having PS2 here makes it more likely to play PS2, which makes it more likely he'll use Steam.

Mmmmmmmmmaybe.. I can fully believe Valve would be that open-minded, but I don't see the potential gains of market exposure offsetting the real costs of the bandwidth needed for the 1000s / 10000s of installations & future patches.

Admittedly, I take very little stock in marketting voodoo, venture-capital'esque thinking. So maybe it's me that's just not getting it.

I beg to differ. I'd have to say the trailer is pretty accurate :7

The only thing that is unlikely to happen is the whole jumping from Liberator to Galaxy in mid air. Technically, you CAN do that.. but the likelyness of being able to do it, and on enemy vehicles? We gotta keep dreaming.

Killing soldiers that are in cockpits or manning vehicle guns were not accurate but fun to watch

True but you can still fly around, throw nades, kill a few dudes, (attempt to) jump on airplanes, and land spawn beacons, all before being stabbed in the torso by a Vanu Babe scout who's riding before the epic storm that is Vanu Forces.
