Is this worth getting? The only thing that stopped me from ever playing the first one was the massive amounts of DLC that was attached to the game. I dont want to buy a game, then get nickled and dimed all the way to the poor house or am not as good as anyone else because I dont have the latest shiny thing. Was this ever really a issue with the first one?

It is awesome fun to play with friends. Even most of the pugs know what their doing. But every once and a while you'll get some mouth breather trying to to a difficulty that is waayyyyy too high for his level and the team will usually suffer.

The game gets very hectic very fast (depending on length) and matches last roughly 40 minutes. As far as DLC goes as far as I'm aware there has been nothing mentioned of paid DLC yet, but I would not doubt at all it will be coming. I never played the first one while it was still getting massive DLC drops so Idk how irritating not having it is, but I can say the game is totally worth it, as it is.

For an early access title it is exceptionally "launch capable". there's little to no bugs, almost zero matchmaking issues. The only annoyance is that there are only three maps. But with a game like KF, learning the maps and routes of escape is very important. Otherwise you'll get lost, won't know how to tell your teammates where you are, and get corneredin a hallway with forty zeds and you'll die, and if it's a late wave, one early death could doom the whole group.

The first killing floor game was like 10 years old so dlc was one of the few ways to add content as sales alone wouldn't fund development over such a long life span.

Killing floor is not like payday 2 where dlc weapons can be so much better than the vanilla ones. The dlc weapons were a nice change up and were slightly better, usually a nice mid level between cheap early game guns and expensive late game guns. I picked a few dlc items in sales for the first game as they were cheap. They were not necessary and just a way to freshen up the game. The developers could only release so much free content updates.

I wouldn't see dlc being released until at least release or even a few months after depending on how busy they are updating the game. The devs expect an 8 month early access cycle so shouldn't be any dlc until that's over. They don't seem to be changing their way of thinking so any dlc would be optional and not necessary for end game.

As phaedo has said, it is a very polished early access. They basically have the groundwork down, but have more game assets to make like enemy types and weapons. So that's why it is early access. They also had so long to work on the first game that they want to release a game that the community already likes so they can now tweak using users opinions with this early access model.

And they will most likely allow custom maps like the first game so that will add longevity. Not sure if user made maps are implemented yet.

Sounds pretty sweet. Any idea how many NNG play this?

I think captain murasa, phaedo and wargrunt should have it. But I don't know beyond that. The pubby community in kf2 is decent as they are veterans from the first game for the most part. So they should be skilled enough and good team mates.

I don't have a lot to add other than I echo the above statements. KF2 is some good, often hectic and crazy, fun, especially with a team of friends in ts. I've ran into zero bugs or issues with the game, which is pretty amazing for early access these days, there is just the downside of only having 3 current maps and 1 boss. Graphics and performance are top notch; very fun game to play. In my opinion though, it's not a game I can see diving hardcore into. It's more of a log on, play a match or two, go play something else kind of game.

From what I've seen so far, there are already map makers working on maps for download, so the number of maps shouldn't be an issue.
And from what I remember, there were only 2 DLC weapon packs and a bunch of skins for KF1, there was no other DLC, everything else was added by mods hosted on the servers.
