    I would recommend that PLATOON leaders only use the Platoon channel.

    Everyone else should keep chatter to the SQUAD level. Keep chatter to a minimum, as to avoid over-talking directives and important information.

    When calling out information, please call out a MAP LOCATION and a Compass direction.
    For example: ENEMY SUNDERER East side of Hvar.
    Enemy Sunderers always get called out.
    Armor should be designated with location, compass direction, heading if possible, and amount and composition.
    For example: ENEMY ARMOR 5 plus tanks headed towards Hvar from the North. OR ENEMY ARMOR headed towards Hvar from the North 5 plus tanks. I would hesitate to call out 1 tank that I know I am about to kill.

    ALL "I NEED (insert massively important help like healing/repairs/ammo etc) should remain in SQUAD- not PLATOON. If your squad is together then they might be able to help you. Otherwise please put a sock in it. :P

    Seriously, I would prefer using the V 1-9 shortcut commands. These shortcut commands give an audible to those around you (the only people close enough to give a flying *#&*) and is sufficient for most help needs.

    There was waaay to much chatter in platoon 10/27, and hopefully we can get everyone on the same page. Of course, we want this to be a social fun game, so please use SQUAD to make your buds. Or better yet PROXIMITY is great for giving someone a compliment (like when Rant ran over all those poor fools- which btw was HILARIOUS).

    Thank you- stepping off soap box. All IMHO of course :D

    PS- I hope we make some good steady permenant squads come launch, so we can get to know each other and learn each others playstyles. I would love to have mostly the same squads going all the time so we can practice together! :)

    I agree with the general sentiment, but I think approaching the issue with guidelines is a better idea than rules.

    A much needed and very well written and thought out post Ope. I agree, keeping chatter to a minimum is to everybody's benefit. If you like chatter and yelling over the mic, do it in proximity or squad but not in platoon where you force up to 47 people to listen to you rant. Squad leaders and platoon leader should be the only people using platoon chat comms on a regular basis. Obviously if others need to say something tactical or are asked to report in platoon chat, they should.

    We should also get more regular players into TS... in case you haven't noticed the in game VoIP is less than clear. TS is more responsive and clearer quality, better comms means better ops.

    Not a permanent solution, but I found out you can lower the volume on (or completely disable) the platoon channel without affecting the others. You'll need to edit the UserOptions.ini file in the Planetside 2 Beta folder.

    Code:
    [VoiceChat]
    EchoEnabled=1
    ProximityEnabled=1
    FactionEnabled=1
    GroupEnabled=1
    RaidEnabled=1
    GuildEnabled=1
    CustomEnabled=1
    EchoVolume=0.500000
    ProximityVolume=0.500000
    FactionVolume=0.500000
    GroupVolume=0.500000
    GroupLeaderEnabled=1
    GroupLeaderVolume=0.700000
    RaidVolume=0.50000
    GuildVolume=0.500000
    CustomVolume=0.500000

    This is what the section looks like in the ini file. Change RaidEnable= to 0 to disable platoon chat, or change RaidVolume to whatever suits you. 0.5 is default. 0.3 seems like a nice balance, although I'm considering disabling entirely and just listening in on TS.

    Yes comm chatter can get annoying.

    I made a post in The planetside forums to add a PLATOON/SQUAD LEADER ability to mute everyone but the leaders.

    Hope something is put in.
    We can always use TS for our Main ops and use the Voip for Daily ops.

    Oh, something else that's annoying:

    "We need help at Indar" or "There's an armor column east of Indar."

    Folks, the name of the whole continent is Indar. This is particularly annoying when we're pushing TR, because we're usually close to the Indar Excavation Site and the Indar Comm Array. It's about as tactically useful as someone asking "Where are you" and me replying "In my chair in front of the computer."

    SO ANNOYING. Dude, look at the map!
    Also relaying compass directions is crucial, especially if you don't use the grid on your map.
    And geographical determinants around the are you are talking about can help by aiding with in game visual ques for those who are deficient in compass skills.

    I would have to agree. There are WAY too many people on platoon chat sometimes (I am guilty of it sometimes to XD ). But it should really only be used for the squad leaders to relay info or useful info their squad is chatting about.

    If you want the platoon to hear something, ask your squad leader. This is called chain of command. It is present in all militaristic organizations for many reasons... however, to keep organized tactics the number one priority, is ours. This is meant to be a social experience as well as a challenging one, but regardless of your argument, a majority of our members want to work tactically and kick some ass, and take it seriously, so we'll defer to the masses. I'll say it again in the future as well, but you don't have to be the best, you just have to be no nonsense... so follow orders and participate. If you feel like you just wanna do your own thing, then lone wolf it, but not in our squads. I do it sometimes, but when your in an NNG platoon, your in it to make a difference, so keep the chatter to a minimum and follow the chain.
