Personally I use these charts for video cards and processors just to get a sense on what's what.

The AMD 6350 or 8350 processors will give you the most bang for your buck. The Intels are a bit more powerful and a little nicer but you pay a premium for it.

As for a video card I'd recommend at least a GTX 660 (or AMD equivalent) for it's price/performance. The 650 (or anything X50 series) is strictly low/mid end and won't really cut mustard. Besides $164 from that site is a god damn ripoff.

You will also probably need at least a ~500w power supply with this hardware.

As for shopping around, www.newegg.com is probably the best place on the net for this.

Sorry, have to disagree heavily with the synthetic benchmark charts, and a 500w PSU is completely overkill. 350w is fine for a single mid range graphics card system.

As far as AMD goes, I wouldn't buy their CPUs right now, stick to Intel there, but their graphics cards are fine. You'll have Nvidia or AMD fanboys just like you'll have WD and Seagate fanboys when it comes to hard drives. The bottom line is get the best performing one for the price at the time you're building, they will both serve you well.

I like building my own, because I'm a control freak and I like doing it. Sometimes you can get a better deal with a prebuilt. If you build your own you have to make sure you have a copy of Wintendo to put on it.

Ibuypower makes a solid rig, fyi. but if you want to go nuts digitalstormonline benchmark and test the bejeebus out of their machines before delivering it, and they send you the tests.

The problem with prebuilt companies like that are while you get to have your rig put together by them and you pick your parts, you run the risk of losing the machine in transit then dealing with customer service and you also pay more unless there is a sale going on
