I'm having a problem where the game is freezing for a few seconds (1-5) every so often. The game is running fine at 60 FPS (where i have it capped), then POOF! drop to 0 (everything freezes) for a few seconds then jump right back to 60 FPS. it may happen every 5min, every 30min or may not happen all night.

This started when i built my new machine so I'm wondering if its something with the build. I have no issue with any other game. It doesnt seem to matter what graphic settings i have it on from low in game to ultra ini tweaks. also doesn't seem to matter what is going on in the game be it in a large battle or setting in the warp gate.

when it first started happening i thought it may of been my SSD, i tried moving the game off to my other hard drive and the problem persists.

one thing i found last night while playing i was monitoring my CPU usage and when every i would hit an FPS freeze my CPU usage would drop to 0

    Dual monitor
    Intel Core i5-3570K
    16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3
    EVGA GTX 660 TI

yeah all drivers are up to date, windows may be downloading updates (it's set to auto) but i dont think that would cause the CPU usage to bottom out.

Remove your RAM, put it back in (firmly).
Even if it was good the first time, sometimes magic will happen. Magic fixes things.

Try using just the one stick at the time etc.

Yea, every one stick out of 200-300 is malfunctioning from the beginning. Could be you just have one of those. In that case, use a RAM tester and let it run for a few hours (or till it finds a lot of faulty registers). Those reports will be your proof for warranty.

thanks guys, i'll have to do some testing on the ram. with that and a couple things ive read elsewhere i have some things to try this weekend. I found some forum posts where others are having the same problem.

hopefully i can get it fixed... but really, my money is still on a PS bug.

When u freeze, does it freeze u in-game as well. In other words if you are flying and freeze will you just resume in that same spot or will it jump you the 300 meters forward when it resumes.

I ask because it can determine what kind of problem you are having. My computer started doing this 3 weeks ago. When I would freeze even if falling I would resume in the same place I froze. It usually left my computer unresponsive during this freeze.

I recently pulled down and reinstalled windows and ps2 (litterly yesterday) with all new updates. After a 2 hour session late last night I have no more problems.

I am not giving you advice from a professional opinion, merely from experience with the most recent game updates. Try reinstalling planetside 2 first, if you still have problems let me know. I can't see your fresh install of windows being the problem unless something went wrong or you installed a conflicting program (antivirus?)
