So I recently discovered an open source face tracking program that works with War Thunder. It can utilize IR dot's like Track IR uses, or it can use facial recognition. Seeing as I don't want to drop $150 on Track IR 5 just for this and Aarma I tried the facial tracking and I have to say it is very impressive. It's a little laggy with a standard webcam but apparently you can use a Playstation Eye and it captures at twice the framerate and smooths out noticeably.

If you guys are interested http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/home/default.htm That is a link to FaceTrackNoIR and the warthunder forums have a thread to help you set it up here http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/10031-wiki-using-trackir-or-freetrack-with-warthunder/. It took me a little while to get it running and to set up the curves how i liked for WT, so if anyone needs any help setting it up let me know.

If you have a joystick I would highly recommend giving it a shot the immersion factor is incredible. It's amazing if you get your curves setup correctly how you can naturally glance at something on your screen and the game will center the view for a moment on it for you. This makes me want to go play some full real battles.

    Interesting.

But I'm the type of player that's more into the fps aspect of the game, instead of the sim side. So nothing but mouse & keys & 3rd person view for me :)

Though, I would be interested in hearing if any of you like this system. hear alot of talk about track IR. Sounds like this can be a solid alternative.

Just spent like an hour setting it up and its fucking awesome!

Few tweaks are still needed, every time I move my torso side to side, it becomes really retarded and its hard to put it back in the center. I've been messing around with the deadzones and such but no luck. Ofcourse with my kids running around on the back is not helping but I'll research it.
It does seem like too much work just for one game mode, not to mention that if it was more friendly to M&K, we wouldn't need all this additional bullshit.

Yea I had to disable roll in the settings to get it too work. If you need to center the view the home key will recenter everything. I bound the End key to zero the game view as well.

I got it to work better but not out of the woods yet. After changing the deadzones and tweaking it just a bit, its not as sensitive as it was before but not where I want it to be just yet. There is no way to bind a recenter button to the joystick and having it on a keyboard is not gonna cut it.

This is the best video about setting it up, this guy goes over the curves set up too so I pretty much copied everything from him, adjusted deadzones and it works great.

Judging by the videos that I've seen, TrackIR is a lot smoother, looks that way anyways. I will spend money on it for sure if we decide to get into FRB some more. I know that its tough for you since you just bought a house and my only two other candidates are Shrugz and Bugsy. Until than I will use the this program and see what happens next.

Quick tip for Facetrack, try running it as administrator and it wont feel as glitchy. Also using the little joystick on the top of ur stick will help you recenter the view if it gets messed up.

Currently testing video settings for better spotting.

Using this would put me way out of whack, I think I'll just wait for the Oculus Rift to come along. Fun idea though if you can get used to it!

Hmm, that is a valid point. I have JUST started to dabble in historical battle's and it will be a long time until I will be able to attempt a full real battle. Maybe the day I no longer need a sticky note on how to land and what keys to press I may try it haha
