    I could be wrong, but I think they did that because there is now animation that plays before they detonate.
    ^ From this, it sound like mines do not detonate instantaneously anymore. Meaning there is now a chance to run away before they blow up.

    But I don't use shotguns anymore ;_;

    And more often than not, I find prox mines kill me not around gens which is where I'd expect them, but in random doorways. The mine kills me, while my comrades right behind me walk right through.
