I've got a GTX 780 now and want to step up to the latest/greatest.

I'm an Nvidia fan but am open to AMD.

There is so much info out there in internetland as well as a lot of noise. Sometimes it's hard to get to the point of it all...
What's the current king of cards?

Titan Z is probably going to be top dog but for people that don't have the Midas touch I'd say the GTX 970 or 980.

Id say go 980 so you dont have a huge energy hogging hotbox in your rig, hell even go ahead and SLI that fucker if you feel like it and can afford it. Now if youre looking for some pretty amazeball frames in games life battlefield, I would go AMD and take advantage of their mantle system. When I had my r9-280x, the game ran rather well other than those annoying know bugs back near launch. If you want to go that route, I would recommend the R9 290x.

Both the 980 and 290x are within the same price range and easily affordable unlike the titan-z that goes for $2000 and up (no offence Doom, its a major hit on the wallet).

I know you've heard it a million times when I was helping others with rigs and upgrades but, Im going to say it again for the millionth time and redundancy. Always do your own research into upgrades and pick what you feel will work best for you. If you can afford it, buy one of each and try them for a week or so so you can do your own tests and make your own decision alongside research.

I will second the nvidia gtx 980. Total biscuit runs them in SLI for his lets look at series. Sometimes he switches to one if sli profiles are not released but I believe that the 980 should run everything out there.
If you want an upgrade I would say go for that.

Just check out some of TB's reviews to see what it looks like if you want. He usually tries to get the best out of every game. At least the best that will run at 60+ fps. He usually runs 1080 or 1440 resolution on a 144ghz monitor.
