when the semester is over . looks like fun

 

Played for a few hours last night. Its pretty intense, lot of fun. It has a lot of depth to it, and right now Im just scrstching the surface.

 

Eh... I have very limited game time and just put a bunch of cash into MWO. Why should it get h1z1?

 

Ran with the Vindicators last night till almost midnight, dodnt want to stop, addictingly fun, even after some guy hanging with us ganked me when I found a loaded up hiddenstash. Only to watch the rest of the guys tear him to shreds.

 

ZeroXephon - I'm not going to sing the praise of the game, just saying that it shows potential and if you like those types of games then you'll probably like this one. I'm also not going to beg someone to play the game if they've obviously made up their mind to just slam it and constantly reiterate that they aren't interested. Different strokes for different folks.

 

It was a legit question Jod. I am on the fence (mostly leaning towards no, but on it none the less). The three biggest sources of hesitation right now are as follows.

1. Hacking. Looks like (according to Ajax) there are already hackers in the game. Now I am sure they will be stomped out in the near future so its not that huge of a deal.

2. SOE. Need I say more?

3, and possibly the biggest concern, PVP. I would have been all over Day-Z if it was not for watching countless videos of some asshole snipers constantly ganking people. It seemed like the zombies were just an inconvenience in the game and people were the main issue. I dont want to scavenge a bunch of loot only to have some prick with uber gear roll over me and steal my shit I worked for all night. Its not appealing at all. So how is the pvp in this game? Are zombies just an inconvenience? Are there roving death squads that are there just to fuck up your night? TELL MEEEE!!!!

 

Right now, its hit or miss. The hackers are banned pretty damned quick from what Ive seen. You will come across a roving gank squad every now and then. But its mainly situational. If you venture into the city, yeah, youre gonna find psychos running around with shotties going hog wild. Out in the wilderness though its a different story. Ive found it fun so far, and youre only paying for early access. When it releases it will be free to play, Im finding it worth the $20, Ive gotten some serious adrenaline rushes so far, and none of the ragequit feelings I get with MWO.

 

Fun Times... on The Journey.... Ajax after you left last night we found a stash key on a Zombie. We hoped in a Police Car that someone left in front of our base went for a ride for the loot. On our way back we came across a road block with two guns shooting at the car... Three people popped out of the car and killed them...

They drop four guns, hundreds of ammo, medkits, helmets... totally rich now.

Gotcha, sorry if I misunderstood. Meaning can get lost in text sometimes. But here are my opinions on the questions:

1. The hacking will definitely be dealt with, just a question of how long. I've only seen 1 hacker thus far, but to be fair, I tend to play a very cautious style and skulk around a lot. I agree though, that could kill it before it gets started.

2. That's a very valid concern. SOE definitely has a track record of ruining great potential. That being said, even with all the bugs and issues, I put several thousand hours into PS2 and enjoyed the absolute shit out of it. Of course it is on the way down now but it was a very fun game overall. The biggest concern I have is the SOE buyout that just took place and considerable dev layoffs that went with it. It paints a pretty grim picture and makes me wonder if this game will progress much and if so at what kind of rate. That alone would make me hold off on a purchase if I were coming in at this state.

3. As far as PVP gank squads, I don't think anything can really be done about that in sandbox type games such as these. It happens, no doubt about it. Give people free reign to do what they wish and a lot of people will undoubtedly be dickheads. The fun part is when you team up with a few guys and wreck them. I agree it kind of sucks, but that's just the nature of the beast in these games. The biggest thing is to remember that you will eventually die and not get attached to your gear. If you worry more about the loot than the gameplay, you will definitely have a bad experience. I did the same thing with DayZ the first couple lives and had to change my mindset to enjoy it.

At the end of the day, I've already gotten my $20 out of the game and honestly haven't put that much time into it. The tense moments are worth it if you're into that kind of thing. These games are definitely not for everyone though...well...much like every other game lol.
